Empowering Women in International Law (WeWIL), a joint initiative of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) and the GQUAL Campaign, will hold its third edition on 16 November 2026.

WeWIL is a global networking and intergenerational mentoring programme that connects women law students from around the world with women judges and leading professionals working across international courts and tribunals, UN bodies, arbitration, human rights, international criminal law, and other areas of international legal practice.

The programme is structured around direct, small-group conversations, where students can explore different professional pathways, seek practical advice, and learn firsthand from women who have built careers across international law. Previous editions have addressed questions related to postgraduate studies, languages, first professional opportunities, career transitions, research and policy work, work-life balance, and the challenges women continue to encounter in the field.

Since its first edition, WeWIL has expanded significantly. In 2024, the programme connected 83 students with 26 professionals from 16 international institutions. In 2025, it brought together 145 students from 49 countries and more than 60 judges and experts representing 43 institutions, following more than 500 applications.

The 2026 edition will continue to strengthen WeWIL as a global and intergenerational community, bringing together women law students from different regions and backgrounds and fostering connections with women working across a broad range of international legal institutions and fields.

The event will take place online and in English on 16 November 2026. Applications are open until 18 September, and selected students will be notified in early October.
