We’re Celebratating the Launch of the Model Law on Parity by the CIM!

This regional instrument is a key step toward advancing equal and inclusive women representation in all areas of public decision-making, including the international sphere.

Developed through a participatory process involving States, civil society, academia, and international organizations, the Model Law is grounded in human rights and non-discrimination obligations established in international and inter-American treaties.

It lays the foundation for achieving parity across all branches of government, including electoral and justice systems. It also provides specific guidelines to ensure parity in the foreign service and international and multilateral bodies.

GQUAL was honored to be part of the Advisory Group that contributed to the development of this instrument, with a particular focus on the chapter addressing parity in international and multilateral representation.

This tool complements the CEDAW Committee’s General Recommendation No. 40, offering a legal roadmap to advance substantive equality at every level of decision-making.

We invite institutions, civil society organizations, States, and all those interested to explore this resource to drive legislative reform, strengthen existing legal frameworks, and ensure that more women participate in shaping decisions that affect us all.
