OPEN STATEMENT: Elections for the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Ahead of the 2026 elections for the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Geneva Human Rights Hub, GQUAL,  and the International Disability Alliance have issued an open statement calling for greater transparency and informed decision-making in the electoral process.

The statement highlights two key concerns: the limited number of nominated candidates, which affects the competitiveness of the process, and the importance of ensuring that elections take into account gender balance, geographic representation, and the participation of experts with disabilities.

As part of these efforts, the organizations will also host an online public presentation of candidates on 31 March 2026.
