OHCHR publishes new webpage to track nomination and election deadlines for Treaty Body Members
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights recently published a webpage that tracks nomination and election deadlines for Treaty Body Members. Each Treaty body——examples of which include the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) or the Human Rights Committee (HRCttee)—is composed of independent experts of recognized competence in human rights, who are nominated and elected for fixed, renewable terms of four years by State parties. Additionally, the page also includes nomination criteria and rules. Moreover, webpages like this one are useful when working with states to take gender parity into consideration prior to a nomination cycle and with International bodies during election periods.
Check out the link to see what’s coming up. We hope to be circulating more sites and pages like this one for all international tribunals and bodies soon!
