Position Title: Communications Intern
Purpose of Position: To assist the Communications Officer with the development of GQUAL communication strategy
Time Commitment: 10 to 30 hours per week; to begin immediately for a minimum of 3 months.
Location: Washington D.C. USA, Center for Justice and International Law
Type: Unpaid
GQUAL is a global campaign that seeks to promote gender parity in international tribunals and monitoring bodies.
We’re looking a highly-motivated, creative, proactive and detail-oriented intern to help with the campaign’s communications activities. The position is hosted by the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL).
This initiative will give the selected candidate hands-on experience and training in many aspects of communications and campaign development at a global level while gaining exposure to local, regional, and international human rights organizations and institutions.
Tasks
- Update and maintain GQUAL’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting on Twitter and Facebook.
- Assist in planning, writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters.
- Pitch, draft, and distribute press releases, op-eds and blog posts.
- Manage editorial and event calendars.
- Design infographics, graphics, e-vites and other marketing materials.
- Update the campaign’s website regularly.
- Update comprehensive database of targeted individuals, organizations, universities and individuals.
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas and tools for the campaign.
- Prepare campaign social media and news monitoring reports.
Qualifications:
- Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space.
- Show a strong interest for human rights
- Able to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with different groups from different cultures and affiliations.
- Graduated or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, journalism, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)
- Previous internship or related experience in journalism, marketing or communications a plus.
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired.
- Must have knowledge of HTML, WordPress and website content management.
- Excellent oral and written skills in English and Spanish. Portuguese a plus.

Purpose of Position: To assist with the production of research and the drafting of reports, papers and other campaign documents, the organization of campaign events, the implementation of advocacy strategies, and the coordination of the global network of supporters and working groups.
Time Commitment: 10 to 30 hours per week; to begin immediately, for a minimum of 3 months.

Tasks
- Work with the GQUAL Secretariat and Strategic Advisers to help plan, coordinate and implement advocacy strategies
- Assist in organizing activists at the local, regional, national or international level;
- Conduct and help coordinate research related with the causes and effects of the under-representation of women in international tribunals and monitoring bodies.
- Communicate and coordinate e-groups with people from different parts of the world.
- Respond to requests for information and management of campaign materials
- Help draft reports, proposals, concept papers, and other campaign documents.
- Assist in planning and organizing high-level events at political and international bodies, academic conferences, etc.
- Update and maintain comprehensive database of targeted individuals, organizations, universities and individuals.
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas and tools for the campaign.
- Attend events and meetings to promote campaign.
Qualifications:

- Graduated or working towards a J.D. or M.A. degree in law, international relations, social sciences.

- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Spanish. Portuguese a plus.

- Research experience y areas related to international law, international human rights, women´s rights, or international relations.

- High level of organizational skills

- Interest in and knowledge of gender issues, international relations, international development and/or human rights

- Able to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with different groups from different cultures and affiliations.

- Experience in a high-energy campaign or non-profit setting preferable
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).
